Founded in 1964, UMOM is committed to our mission to prevent and end homelessness using innovative strategies and housing solutions that meet the unique needs of each family and individual. At UMOM, we move quickly to place families or individuals into short-term, subsidized housing, and then deploy a range of supportive services to overcome barriers to permanent housing. We provide safe shelter and supportive services for over 170 homeless families. We also offer nearly 300 units of affordable housing across the valley, each with special program centers for residents.

Position Description:

The Coordinator, Housing Stability is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management and operations of the Support Services for Veteran Families Program (SSVF). This position is responsible for implementing best practices in housing programming in alignment with our housing and income-based strategies for ending homelessness.   This position is responsible for the direct supervision of the Housing Stability Specialists in the Support Services for Veteran Families program and will work in close collaboration with the Housing Manager.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Program Management

1      oversee management of the operations of UMOM's Support Services for Veteran Families Program; including housing based case management, landlord outreach and support and supporting the health and safety of all SSVF clients.

2      Provide back-up support including covering case management services if Housing Stability Specialist is not available.

3      Support weekly staffing with Housing case management team to address client barriers, build effective case plans, designing exit plans and create an environment of peer-to-peer learning.

4      Provide input and assist with maintaining policies and processes related to SSVF and Department of Veteran Affairs policies.

5     Align case management efforts to support UMOM's strategy around housing + income ending homelessness.

Data Driven & Outcomes Oriented Approach to Impact

6    Assure that staff are utilizing workflows and case management model to maximize efficiency, effectiveness, and consistency of impact in alignment with identified goals for program.

7      Audit client files to ensure program model is being adhered to and utilize as a teaching tool for staff.

8      Monitor standards related to the importance of data quality, data completeness, and data timeliness

9      Provide reports, summaries and documentation as needed. 

Housing Operations

10   Collaborate with Housing Manager, Department of Veteran Affairs and Coordinated Entry System for all referrals to Rapid Rehousing, Homeless Prevention and Rapid Resolution programs and assist with verifying eligibility of all perspective clients.

11   Monitor all Homeless Prevention and Rapid Resolution processes and assure they are in alignment with SSVF guidelines

11   Assist with all contractual programmatic and reporting requirements.

12   Assist with subcontract management and serve as point of contact for direct reports and clients as needed.

Supervision & Leadership

13   Supervise staff; including training, direction of work, appraisal of productivity and efficiency, delivery of feedback and coaching, and disciplinary action, if required

14   Provide clinical guidance to staff as needed, including emergency and crises situations, and maintain on-call access to team.

15   Act on behalf of the Housing Manger upon request.

Qualification and Competency Requirements:                         

Experience and Education:

  • High School Diploma/ GED required. Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience, with at least 1 year of experience in relevant roles required (e.g. shelter operations, homeless services, non-profits, operations management, and/or community-based organization positions).
  • 2 years Supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of non-profit/social sector; experience working with Veteran populations is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Rapid Rehousing/ Tenant-Based Rental Assistance programs is preferred.
  • Knowledge of domestic violence, child welfare, substance abuse, mental health and human trafficking is a plus.

Computer skills:

  • Proficiency with applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook


  • Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card or the ability to obtain one
  • Valid AZ driver's license and a driving record that falls within UMOM's policy
  • Vehicle insurance in accordance with UMOM's driving policy.
