Workforce Development Specialists are responsible for implementing UMOM's employment and job training strategies to assist clients in obtaining and retaining sustainable income to support ending their experience of homelessness. You're a great candidate for this position if you're passionate about working with people, understand how employment contributes to providing stability, and want to contribute to ending homelessness in our community.

On a daily basis, you'll be working with clients and UMOM case managers to identify and assess barriers to employment and help them develop strategies to overcome those barriers. You'll provide resources and leverage community relationships to support clients getting connected to and hired into jobs. You'll develop and facilitate trainings on topics such as resume writing, interviewing skills, effective job searching, and job retention. And you'll record, monitor, and assess how it's all going, helping to resolve problems that arise and adjust your approach as needed, all while ensuring relevant stakeholders receive needed communication.

To be successful at these types of daily tasks, you'll regularly be working directly with people both in-person, on the phone, and via virtual meetings. You'll need to be client-focused, detail-oriented, and able to navigate fast-paced and varied work. You'll need to have empathy, patience, and a sense of curiosity about people and processes, and you should be comfortable navigating the internet, managing email as a communication tool, and using programs like Word, Excel, and Power Point.

If you get satisfaction from completing multiple tasks during the day, seeking out and connecting people to resources, and working with people one-on-one and within a group or team setting, this role will play to your strengths. The work done within this position is challenging and even exhausting at times, but that is because you understand how important the work is to those you are helping. As a Workforce Development Specialist, you'll finish each day celebrating with your team because you'll know your efforts had a direct and positive impact on families.

SCHEDULE: This position typically works Monday - Friday from 8am-4pm.
