About UMOM 

Founded in 1964, UMOM is Arizona's larger provider of services for families experiencing homelessness. Our mission is to prevent and end homelessness using innovative strategies and housing solutions that meet the unique needs of each family and individual. With an annual operating budget of 18 million dollars, UMOM provides shelter, housing, and supportive services to youth, families, and individuals experiencing homelessness in Maricopa County. UMOM serves just over 12,000 unique individuals across all of our services annually, including those families receiving support at the Family Housing Hub.

Position Description:

Mentor at-risk youth, and provide programming designed to increase their resiliency, improve their life skills, and proliferate academic achievement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Functions as a mentor to youth through role modeling, and assist in positive youth development; mental, physical, emotional.
  2. Create and implement a daily schedule of enrichment activities.
  3. Prepare and implement a monthly events calendar.
  4. Supervise youth at all times, in program and on field trips.
  5. Organize field trips, and provide transportation.
  6. Support constructive group interaction, and enhance positive social skills.
  7. Provide behavior intervention when necessary, and assist youth in mediating conflict with others.
  8. Consistently and fairly apply program rules, UMOM policies, and behavior expectations for youth.
  9. Provide homework assistance and support academic improvement.
  10. Maintain attendance and meal records, and track active participation.
  11. Assist in set up, break down, and ongoing maintenance in an effort to keep program center clean and inviting
  12. Build positive relationships with youth and families.
  13. Coordinate volunteer participation with youth.
  14. Maintain professionalism and have positive interactions with volunteers and visitors.
  15. Comply with established agency policies and procedures.
  16. Participate in staff development and training activities when needed.


  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred 
  • 6 months experience working with youth
  • Flexible schedule and weekends
  • Valid Arizona Driver's License & Driving record in compliance with UMOM's Driving Policy
  • 100/300 level car insurance coverage
  • Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card or the ability to obtain one

*Schedule: Monday-Thursday 11am-7pm; Friday 9am-5pm*
