Job Title: Women's Support Advocate

Supervisor: Advocate Supervisor

Classification: Non-exempt

Salary Range: $11.50/hour

Position Description:

The Women's Support Advocate assists women in shelter, provides crisis intervention and monitors the shelter property in a trauma informed manner to ensure the health and safety of individuals, families and staff. Provides transportation to women as needed and is actively engaged in a team effort to assist women in ending their homelessness.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide housing-focused, trauma informed engagement to women in shelter, helping to create a safe, housingfocused
    environment
  2. Provide intake as assigned inclusive of conveying expectations around housing focus and behavior
  3. Manage room assignments
  4. Work with women to help them meet housing focused and behavioral expectations
  5. Offer assistance, support and encouragement to all women in shelter by helping to meet immediate basic needs and reinforcing the importance of housing solutions in a way that helps ensure physical and emotional safety
  6. Monitor the facility to help promote the safety of all people on the property, including but not limited to ensuring that all women in shelter and others accessing the campus (such as service providers and volunteers) sign in/out and monitoring the dining room during meal times
  7. De-escalate conflict in a safe and appropriate manner, responding to crisis as necessary making contact with oncall, police, fire department and/or crisis team as needed.
  8. Be present and visibly seen in and around the facility
  9. Work with the Housing Case Managers to support and encourage action in the housing plan
  10. Support the work of other staff in connecting women to housing related appointments and transportation
  11. Assist with donations, kitchen and facility clean-up, submission of work orders and events
  12. Monitor health and safety of rooms and living spaces and provide instruction for women to alleviate potential health, wellness and/or safety related concerns
  13. Conduct room searches as requested and monitor when women are moving out of the shelter
  14. Demonstrate, role model and work alongside the women to maintain the cleanliness of the facility (e.g. show them how to use tools to pick up trash and work alongside them to complete the task)
  15. Provide efficient, friendly customer service to women in shelter, volunteers, community partners and UMOM staff members
  16. Provide transportation in a timely, safe manner, following all traffic laws at all times
  17. Complete Incident Reports as needed
  18. Answer the phone and route calls as needed
  19. Submit maintenance and/or housekeeping related work orders in a timely manner
  20. Ensure that all paperwork is completed in a thorough, timely manner
  21. Comply with agency policies and procedures

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 1 year in experience in human services and/or shelter setting preferred.
  • Current Food Handlers Card required
  • Valid Arizona Driver's License and a driving record that falls within UMOM's policy
  • Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card or the ability to obtain one
  • Successfully pass maximum risk and background screening as per City of Phoenix requirements this shall include felony and misdemeanor records from any county in the United States, the state of Arizona, plus any other jurisdiction where the Contract Worker has lived at any time in the preceding seven (7) years from the Contract
  • Worker's proposed date of hire. Plus a sexual offender search for the preceding seven (7) years and driving record search for the preceding seven (3) years from the Contract Worker's proposed date of hire.
  • Must be able to drive agency vehicles safely and to pass a written driving test and a road test
  • Knowledge of current Windows operating system, MS Word and Excel
